CHRIS JACKEY '90 Induction Class of 2003 A native of Rockville Centre, N.Y., Chris Jackey played basketball at Binghamton from 1986-90 and earned his bachelor's degree in history in 1990. Jackey was a 6-foot-3 sharp-shooting guard whose scoring prowess was second to none. In four years, including three as a starter, he compiled a school-record 1,721 points an average of 19.1 points per game. That total remains the highest in 57 years of basketball at Binghamton. Jackey also ranks among the top-10 in 15 different offensive categories. As a sophomore, Jackey was inserted into the starting lineup and proceeded to deliver a school-record 630 points for an average of 24.2 per contest. He scored 30 or more points eight times, including 36 apiece against Albany and Plattsburgh in an eight-day span. Jackey wound up leading the entire SUNYAC in scoring and was named first team all-conference . In 1988-89, he switched from shooting guard to point guard and still averaged 21 points per game, but also led the conference in assists with 172. He produced five more 30+ scoring performances, highlighted by a career-high 40 against SUNYAC rival Cortland. Jackey again was chosen as a first-team All-SUNYAC member. He was named captain for his senior season, and responded with a 21.4 scoring average and career highs in steals and three-point percentage. A deadly outside shooter, Jackey nailed a three-pointer in 21 straight games, and produced a rare "triple-double" with 19 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds against Plattsburgh. A scholar-athlete, Jackey was the school's first basketball player to become an Academic All-American, and also received an ECAC Merit Medal. He was the University's Jake Pitler Award winner in 1990. |
