VESTAL, N.Y.-- Former Binghamton women's basketball standout
Laura
Franceski has signed a contract to play professionally in
Venice, Italy this upcoming season. Currently, she is practicing
with the Division 1 team of the Reyer Venezia organization but
in about a month she could be moved up to the Division 2 (A2)
team for the rest of the year.
"I am very happy to be able to further my career in basketball,"
Franceski said. "Living and playing in Italy is going to
be a challenge and also an experience."
"We are very happy that Laura has been able to continue
her playing career at the professional level," Binghamton
head coach Nicole Scholl said. "She was an important part
of our program here and we wish her continued success this season."
Franceski was an America East third-team all-conference selection
in her senior season (2008-09). In both her sophomore and senior
years, she led the America East in blocks per game. Her 218 career
blocks rank second all time in Binghamton program history, behind
only current Bearcat assistant coach Leah Truncale, who posted
236 blocks from 1998-02.
